Visitors' Information
Visitors to the hospital are asked to sign the visitor log upon entering Rex Healthcare after 8:30 p.m. or when visiting Rex Family Birth Center. Children, ages one to 12, must be supervised by an adult, other than the patient, at all times. Infants less than one year of age will not be permitted to visit unless they are a sibling or child of a patient.

Critical Care Units have the following limited visiting hours:
Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
8:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. (no visiting from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.)
Cardio Thoracic Recovery Unit (CTRU)
9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 6 p.m., 9 p.m.
Overnight Guests and Lodging
If you anticipate staying at Rex overnight, you may want a family member or close friend to stay with you in your room. Please talk with your physician ahead of time about that possibility. While this is not possible in all areas of Rex due to the level of care you may need, we will work with you to accommodate your wishes whenever we can and where appropriate.

Waiting Areas
Special waiting rooms are available near the Patient Tower lobby for friends and family members of patients having surgery or in critical care. These waiting areas are comfortably furnished and are near telephones, an eating area, the gift shop and physician's conference rooms.
Other areas of Rex, such as Same Day Surgery, Emergency Department, MRI and Rex Family Birth Center have separate, comfortable waiting areas with telephones nearby.

Tobacco Free Campus
Rex cares about the health of our visitors, patients and co-workers. That's why we eliminated all smoking areas and made all Rex Healthcare locations tobacco-free inside and outside.

Parking
As a benefit to our patients and visitors, all parking at Rex Healthcare is free. Parking areas are marked by signs. It may be helpful to make a note of exactly where you are parked so you can quickly find your car as you leave.
Members of Rex's Protective Services staff make frequent rounds of all parking lots, and are available to answer questions or provide other assistance. They can be spotted in white-colored Rex Healthcare vehicles.
All parking lots are monitored by audiovisual equipment 24 hours a day. If you or your family members/visitors leave Rex after dark and would like to request escort service to any of the lots, please don't hesitate to call.

The Korner Gift Shop
Visitors and patients can shop for gifts or personal items at the Korner Gift Shop located in the Patient Tower lobby on the second floor. The Korner Gift Shop offers a wide variety of merchandise including jewelry; reading materials; fresh flowers; candy and snack foods; sodas; balloons; toiletries; baby items and gifts for the whole family. If you'd like to order a gift by phone, we will happily deliver to any patient in the main hospital. Visa and MasterCard are accepted.

Flower Delivery
Rex volunteers deliver flowers that have been ordered through a florist to patients Monday - Friday after 2 p.m. If a patient has been discharged, flowers are returned to the florist so that a home delivery can be made. Flowers are not delivered to patients in the Critical Care Units.

Audio Newspaper Service (Radio Reading Service)
This service is available through your patient room television on Channel 25.
Books and Magazines
The Korner Gift Shop, adjacent to the Patient Tower lobby on the second floor, carries a selection of magazines, and books for purchase. The Rex Hospital Library, located on the first floor, also has magazines and books for perusal.

Newspapers
Newspaper stands are located on each patient floor in the elevator lobbies. They are also located on the second floor near the main lobby and on the first floor near the Birth Center lobby

Television
Each patient's room at Rex is equipped with a television free of charge. In additional to local and cable broadcasting channels, Rex Healthcare also provides educational programs on its own station, WREX, channel 10.
Dining
Cafeteria
The Rex Dining Room is located on the first floor and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Korner Café
The Korner Café is located on the second floor near the patient tower entrance and is open Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Room Service
Rex offers "At Your Request," a hotel-style room service menu. Patients and guests can order from this menu at anytime from 6:30 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. The service is offered 24 hours a day for patients and visitors in the Emergency Department and Family Birth Center. Guests who wish to dine with a patient in his or her room can obtain a meal coupon in the cafeteria.

Each patient room (except Critical Care rooms) is equipped with a telephone.
To make calls to numbers with the "784" prefix, simply dial the last four digits.
To make a local call, dial 9 followed by the number.
Long distance calls must be charge to a personal calling card. If necessary, the Rex Operator can assist you in making collect long distance calls.

Cellular Phones
We ask that patients and visitors refrain from using cellular phones in the hospital as they may interfere with patient care equipment.
Automatic Teller Machine (ATM)
There is an automated teller machine located adjacent to the Patient Tower entrance and in the cafeteria on the first floor.
Spiritual Services
Chapel
Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the Chapel is located on the second floor between the main lobby and Admitting/Discharge. The Chapel can be reserved for special services.

Chaplains/Pastoral Care
Chaplains are available to patients and families for support related to the impact of hospitalization, illness, grief and other issues. You can meet with the Chaplain assigned to your clinical area or call Pastoral Care to request a visit.

Garden
The Rex Hospital Guild maintains the Maude Grimes Garden for patients, visitors and employees to enjoy. Patients who wish to visit the garden should notify their nurse before leaving their unit. Patients needing assistance may request a volunteer to accompany them. The Garden is located in the courtyard on the first floor across from the cafeteria.

Mail Delivery
Rex volunteers deliver mail to patients Monday through Friday. If a patient has been discharged, the mail will be forwarded to the patient's home address.

The Copy Center is located on the first floor of the hospital. Patients and families may make copies or receive a fax for a small fee.
Packages
We will be happy to help you arrange to receive packages, or, for a small fee, to send packages while your are a patient. Contact Materials Management Services for more information.
